Transition

The transition to and from a new school can be anxious one for both pupils and their families. Our arrangements are designed to reduce anxiety and promote a smooth transition for all.

Year 2 to Year 3 Transition

The majority of pupils entering Concord transfer from Wincobank NI School.

We run a series of exciting transition events for pupils transferring to Concord, throughout the Spring and Summer Term, ranging from visits to the school, art workshops and parent meetings. These events allow children and their parents to get to know their new setting and staff and have proved extremely successful.

Visits to the school from prospective families are always welcome and encouraged.

Additional familiarisation visits for vulnerable pupils are arranged by the SENCO / DSL - Nicola Sherwood - to ease what can be an anxious move for both pupils and their families.

Early bird parent meetings are held within the first month of transition in September to discuss how well the children have settled into their new setting.

Please see below the presentation documents to accompany the Year 2 to Year 3 Transition parent meeting in July.

Year 6 to KS3 Transition

The majority of pupils in Y6 transfer to Hinde House Secondary School, although a number of our pupils, who live outside our catchment, transfer to other schools closer to their homes.

In September each year, there is an Open Evening for prospective pupils and parents/carers at Hinde House Secondary School. Details of other school open evenings are shared with parents as necessary.

In July of each year, the Y6 pupils spend a number of days at Hinde House Secondary School taking lessons with both their existing Primary teachers and some Secondary teachers. This provides a staged transition between the two phases and has proved to be a highly successful programme over the years.

Children who have additional or special needs are taken through a comprehensive transition process, at their respective secondary school, to ensure they quickly settle and staff are fully aware of their individual needs.

Please see below the presentation documents to accompany the Year 2 to Year 3 Transition parents meeting.
